What's the background on Sponsor7Summits?
Sponsor7Summits was created as a personal goal, which morphed into a much
greater cause. I grew up in Southern Oregon and I've always been into
outdoors and extreme sports. I was a helicopter rescue swimmer in the
Navy for 6 years stationed in San Diego where I met my wonderful wife,
JoAnna. We dated while I was in the Navy and I proposed on her 25th
birthday in a hot air balloon over Del Mar (JoAnna is deathly scared of
heights). We were married in 2001 then moved up to Seattle for
graduate school. JoAnna earned her Masters in Social Work and I earned
my MBA in Technology Management. Shortly after graduation we bought
our first house and had two wonderful kids, Emily and Jordan.
Through
the years I continued to have extreme sports as hobbies such as rappelling,
rock climbing, mt. biking, surfing, snowboarding, etc. This past year
(2007) I decided to climb the 7 summits. JoAnna with her background
came up with the idea to use this as an opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause.
That's how we came up with the idea. It's an ambitious
goal, but with God's guidance I do believe we'll be successful.
